Only 19% Favor Defunding Obamacare If It Shuts Down Government.

With government funding set to run out on September 30, 2013, the Republican House last week passed a bill that would fund the government in return for defunding Obamacare. The House leadership said they were doing this to honor the wishes of Americans, who they say, in clear majorities, oppose Obamacare. But a poll conducted by well known Republican pollster Bill McInturff has effectively poked huge holes in that narrative. Here are the results:
1. ” 59 percent of those polled opposed cutting funds to the president’s signature health law, while 19 percent supported it, according to a CNBC All-America Economic Survey conducted by Hart-McInturff out Monday.”
2. “Without the possibility of a shutdown, Americans are still against defunding Obamacare generally, 44 percent to 38 percent, the poll found.”
3. “While a majority of Republicans who identify with the tea party support defunding Obamacare even if it means a shutdown, by 54 percent, Republicans who do not identify with the tea party oppose doing so, 48 percent to 36 percent.”
According to Politico, “Hart-McInturff surveyed 800 Americans from Sept. 16 to 19 for the poll, which has an error margin of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.”
