HHS is Taking AHIC Private

The American Health Information Community (AHIC) is going private. It was created in 2005 to make recommendations to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on how to accelerate the adoption of interoperable health information technology. The slide deck of Dr. Robert Kolodner (who succeeded David Brailer) is available at the link below and it’s worth a look in that it scopes out where HHS is going. Not surprisingly, it reflects strong faith in the notion of "privatization." Yet the technology seems to want to rationalize, organize, connect and equitably empower on a national scale — which of course requires coordinate national leadership that is stable and consistent across time and administrations.

My questions? Are people largely aware of this step by HHS? Do you think it’s a good idea?
