Perfection vs. Imperfection

REFLECTION:

None of us is perfect. We all have cracks, some more visible than others. But that does not mean that we shouldn’t try to reach the stars, that we should intentionally sell short ourselves. We may be earthbound but we should be heaven bent. Commit to pursuing your highest aspirations. That’s where the beauty lies. And even if you fall short, you will be better formed by the seeking process. People expect faults in human beings. It is our nature to make mistakes. Without this feature how would we support the desire to perfect ourselves, to improve ourselves and our lives. Tie in the fact that courage is centered here, both the courage to acknowledge imperfections and the courage to attempt the corrections. No one is perfect in all things. My worst may be assisted by your best and my best of value to your worst. Let’s make a deal then. Let’s both admit we’re deeply flawed and commit together to a mutual correction.

MUSES:

There is a crack in everything God has made.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Aim at heaven and you get earth thrown in; aim at earth and you get neither.
C.S. Lewis

Far away in the sunshine are my highest inspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead.
Louisa May Alcott

He is lifeless that is faultless.
English Proverb

You’re only human, you’re supposed to make mistakes.
Billy Joel

If a man wants to be of the greatest possible value to his fellow-creatures, let him begin the long, solitary task of perfecting himself.
Robertson Davies

Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections.
Saint Francis de Sales

There is so much good in the worst of us and so much bad in the best of us, that it’s rather hard to tell which of us ought to reform the rest of us.
Sign in Springdale, CT

If the best man’s faults were written on his forehead, it would make him pull his hat over his eyes.
Gaelic Proverb
