   | | Comment about: Concussion | | | October 23, 2007 | | Risks and rewards, including concussion | The issue you raise, the risk of concussion in adolescents who play organized sports, is one that concerns many American families. The benefits of this type of activity - exercise, socialization, training in teamwork to name a few - are obvious. The risks are less obvious but real. For a full discussion of the issue, you can turn to a paper by the American Academy of Pediatrics online. One of the points made in the article is that steps can be taken to lessen the risk of and prevent concussions. A table in the paper lists the following resources with valuable information on concussion prevention in children involved in sports activiites. Thanks for raising this critical issue.
