Turning to Gastric Bypass

A glimpse of one man's struggle with obesity
Video: Dealing with obesity and gastric bypass surgery
The National Geographic Channel recently examined the life and motivations of a 28-year-old grappling with obesity and the possibility of a significantly shortened lifespan. His solution was gastric bypass surgery -- a procedure that is more and more common. What's your opinion about the growing obesity problem in the United States and the use of gastric bypass surgery?

Turning To Gastric ByPass

I believe the only way to avoid such drastic measures is to be educated about nutrition.

The bodies cravings go awry when we are not getting the nutrients we need. It sounds simplistic but in today's society our food supply is severly corrupt. Genetic modification, soil abuse, pesticides and harvesting our food before it is ripe keep vital nutrients from developing.

Food supplements fall short because they isolate vitamins and remove intrinsic factors needed in order to assimilate the nutrients properly. Aside from this they are found to come from questionable sources.

I've found a line of nutritional products that uses organic whole foods, processed at very low temperatures leaving the live enzymes intact, with impeccable standards of harvesting and processing.

Unless you get your food fresh from the plant grown in your back yard, this is the only way to assure that you are recieving the vital nutrition your body needs to curb appetite and reset the hunger buttons we all experience when our bodies are crying out to be fed.

Gastric Bypass as an Alternative Treatment

Although a nice idea, I don’t believe that being educated about nutrition will cut it for certain people to achieve the life-saving weight loss that their health conditions might need. Added to this, the depression caused by a secluded, obese lifestyle doesn’t provide enough motivation to stick to a diet. Just looking at the growing number of obese people one can see on a daily basis, it is clear that alternative solutions such as gastric bypass surgery should be emphasized as an effective alternative treatment when other things fail. A good example of this is when the CNN weatherman
Al Roker underwent his gastric
bypass surgery with surgeon Dr. Marina Kurian, after failing at numerous diets. Within a year, he had
dropped 100 pounds and since kept it off. This drastic weight loss was necessary for him to have the motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle, something sole nutrition couldn't do.
