RE: Digitizing Health

I really take to what you are saying here about the medical "home" concept.  Health care reform is imminent, and health information technology should be a part of it.  I work for icyou.com, a user-generated website that features videos about any and all health care issues.  We're dedicated to spreading information and increasing awareness of and accessibility to health care topics.  We're a part of the digitization of health care, and would really like to support your position.  If you have any videos, or would simply like to contact us, please check us out on the web.

Thanks Jim and ...

Thanks, Jim. What's your take on what happened with Bechtel in Bolivia. How would you handle a population like that?

RE: Hiding Vegetables in Kids' Food

I bought some Hide-a-Veg a few months ago. It's a veggie supplement that we add to our food. I used it for a while without telling the kids (or the hubby) and then let them in on it slowly.

I got lots of gasps from the 10 yr old, but she has learned to accept that there are now veggies in everything. So she's not scared of them. She can't taste them and is now willing to try fresh and cooked stuff.

We tried the puree thing, but it was sooo much work, and cooking takes out vitamins, freezing takes out vitamins, not to mention space and electricity to store it all!

With the hide-a-Veg it's all raw veggies so none of the vitamins are removed, which is a good thing. I've even gotten away with putting it in peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches!

it's from the lynn zetta company and it's slowly getting more press.

I myself used "stealth health" to cover the kids nutritional bases while I tried to encourage them to like them in their original form. I keep introducing more, but when she says no it doesn't turn into a fight because I know she ate it in her pancakes this morning! :) ...and her grilled cheese... and her spaghetti ...and her ketchup that she dipped her McDonald's chicken nuggets in... and...  :-D

RE: Water Pricing and Control

The Best Path to Conservation
The best path to conservation is for individuals and companies to bear the full cost of their usage. That means eliminating subsidies to agribusiness and other groups. This in turn requires pricing information that is "unmolested" by the political process. Therefore, supply, distribution, and infrastructure are best delivered by private for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.

Congrats on Selection to the Carnival of Trust Top Ten

Judy,

Congratulations on having this post selected as one of the Top Ten in the Carnival of Trust, at http://www.davesteinsblog.com/2009/06/09/the-june-2009-carnival-of-trust/

A monthly selection of the best trust-related postings on the internet, this month's was hosted by Dave Stein, and he obviously chose well; trust in the medical, pharmaceutical and health care fields is immensely valuable, and often under threat; radical transparency strikes me too as very important.

But again, congrats on this post's selection.  Thanks, and you might take a minute to look over your nine-fellow-selectees.

RE: When Bad Ideas Happen to Good Companies

Bad Ideas Replacing Good Ideas

I thank you for spotting this unfortunate turn of a good idea into a bad one. This is a beautiful example of turning success into failure. It is much better not to know than knowing little. Little knowledge or awareness turn good fortunes into bad ones.

RE: Public Trust and Transparency

Having been a clinician, researcher, hospital administrator and executive at a major pharmaceutical company, I couldn't agree more with you, Judy. In my experience, there are problems of conflict of interest in each and every one of these sectors. Full transparency should be an absolute requirement. Resistance simply suggests there is something to hide - and in many cases, there has been and continues to be.
